Meet the Therapist

Caitlin Kelaghan, M.S., CCC-SLP is the founder and director of Beyond Words: Speech, Language, & Literacy Solutions. A New York City native, Caitlin always had a passion for working with children. She pursued a double major in Early Childhood Education and Communication Studies in college, earning her teaching certification in both general and special education for children from birth through grade 6. However, Caitlin’s deep interest in helping children communicate led her to pursue a master’s degree in Speech Pathology, which she found to be an incredibly fulfilling path.

Following graduate school, Caitlin gained valuable experience working in center-based preschools across Manhattan and Brooklyn, as well as in private practice, supporting a diverse range of clients. After four years of honing her expertise in speech, language, and cognitive development, she transitioned to the New York City Department of Education, where she became a tenured Speech-Language Pathologist. Over the course of eight years in an elementary school setting, Caitlin worked closely with teachers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, learning specialists, guidance counselors, and social workers to provide holistic support to students.

With more than a decade of experience, Caitlin specializes in early intervention and works extensively with school-age children facing speech sound disorders, reading challenges, expressive and receptive language delays, and fluency disorders. She also has a strong background in leading social pragmatics groups for children, helping them develop essential communication skills for social success.

Caitlin has received training in several specialized areas, including the Orton-Gillingham Appraoch, Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cueing (DTTC), PROMPT, Sounds-In-Motion, Social Thinking, Wilson Reading, and Recipe for Reading.

After starting a family, Caitlin and her husband, a Rhode Island native, relocated to the Ocean State. She is licensed to practice in both Rhode Island and New York, offering in-person and teletherapy services to clients in Rhode Island, and teletherapy services to clients in New York. Caitlin is certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).

Outside of her professional life, Caitlin enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband, their two young daughters, and their golden retriever, Tucker. She is also a professional Irish dancer and has had the opportunity to tour both nationally and internationally for many years.

Therapeutic Approach

Caitlin believes that every child deserves a personalized approach to therapy, as no two children are alike—diagnosis aside. At Beyond Words each session is tailored to the individual child’s interests, ensuring maximum motivation and engagement throughout the process. Therapy is designed to be holistic and multi-sensory, with each session crafted to meet the unique needs of the child.

At Beyond Words, we understand that progress thrives when strategies are reinforced across multiple environments. That’s why we emphasize parent coaching, provide at-home activities, and maintain open communication with classroom teachers and other school-based professionals whenever necessary to ensure continuous support.
